The well known Puthukkalavattom Mahadeva temple locates on the Puthukkalavattom-Elamakkara road at a distance of 5 KMs away from Ernakulam. This many centuries old temple has Swayambhoo Lord Siva as the Deity viewing the eastern side.
Together with Shakti Swaroopini Bhagawathi and Lord Sree Ganesha, the Nagadevathas and Navagrahas posit as sub deities shedding the blessings. In the earlier stage, the Puliyannoor Illam was carrying the Thanthrik sthanam. The administration stood with Edappalli swaroopam and later it was undertaken by the NSS Karayogam. A short distance of 4 KMs from Kaloor makes the travel easy to reach the temple. From Aswathi star date in the Malayalam month of Dhanu to Thiruvathira star day the temple felicitates the Annual Thirivathira Mahothsavam. On these days, many people visit Lord Siva for getting his blessings for a life partner and a long married life. As Puthukkalavathappan (Lord Siva) is highly renowned for showering ‘swift and fast’ blessings on his devotees. Sivarathri, Navarathri like celebrations, the Ayilyam Puja in the month of Kanni, Vrischikam Mandalavilakku etc are highly felicitated here. Again the Navagraha prathishta and Dhwaja Prathishta days are all also prominent. 5 AM to 10 AM in the morning and in the evening it is 5.30 to 8 PM the corresponding visiting times.

എറണാകുളം പട്ടണത്തില്‍ നിന്ന്‍ ഏകദേശം 5 കിലോ മീറ്റര്‍ ദൂരത്തായി പുതുക്കലവട്ടം-എളമക്കര റോഡിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രസിദ്ധമായ ക്ഷേത്രമാണ് പുതുക്കലവട്ടം സ്വയംഭൂ മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം. മംഗളസ്വരൂപനായ ഭഗവാൻ സ്വയംഭൂ പ്രതിഷ്ഠയായി കിഴക്കോട്ടു ദർശനം നൽകിക്കൊണ്ട് വിരാജിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന് നൂറ്റാണ്ടുകളുടെ കാലപ്പഴക്കമുണ്ട്.

ശക്തി സ്വരൂപിണിയായ ഭഗവതിയും, വിഘ്നേശ്വരനായ ഗണപതിയും, നാഗദേവതകളും,നവഗ്രഹങ്ങളും ഉപദേവതകളായി മഹാദേവനോടൊപ്പം ദേശത്തിന് അനുഗ്രഹമേകുന്നു. പുലിയന്നൂർ ഇല്ലക്കാർ തന്ത്രിസ്ഥാനം വഹിക്കുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രത്തിന്റെ നടത്തിപ്പ് ഇടപ്പള്ളി സ്വരൂപം വക ആയിരുന്നു എങ്കിലും പിന്നീട് എൻ എസ് എസ് ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു. കലൂരിൽ നിന്നും നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരത്തിൽ സ്ഥിതി ചെയ്യുന്ന ക്ഷേത്രം ജനങ്ങൾക്ക് എത്തിപ്പെടുവാൻ എളുപ്പമുള്ളതുമാണ്. ധനുമാസത്തിലെ അശ്വതി നാൾ മുതൽ തുടങ്ങി തിരുവാതിര ദിവസം ആറാട്ടോടു കൂടി അവസാനിക്കുന്ന തിരുവാതിര മഹോത്സവം ആണ് ക്ഷേത്രത്തിലെ പ്രധാന വിശേഷദിനങ്ങളിൽ ഒന്ന്. തിരുവാതിര ആഘോഷ ദിനങ്ങളിൽ ഉത്തമ ഭർതൃലബ്ധിക്കും, നെടുമാംഗല്യത്തിനുമായി ക്ഷിപ്രപ്രസാദിയായ പുതുക്കലവട്ടത്തപ്പന്റെ അനുഗ്രഹം തേടിയെത്തുന്നവർ നിരവധിയാണ്. ഇതിനു പുറമെ ശിവരാത്രി, നവരാത്രി ആഘോഷങ്ങൾ, കന്നിമാസത്തിലെ ആയില്യപൂജ, വൃശ്ചികത്തിലെ മണ്ഡലവിളക്ക്, മേടമാസത്തിലെ ധ്വജ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാദിനം, നവഗ്രഹ പ്രതിഷ്ഠാ ദിനം എന്നിവയും വിശേഷദിനങ്ങളായി കൊണ്ടാടുന്നു. രാവിലെ 5 മുതൽ 10.30 വരെയും, വൈകുന്നേരം 5.30 മുതൽ 8 മണി വരെയുമാണ് ദർശന സമയങ്ങൾ.
