Sri Banashankari Temple – Bangalore

Sri Banashankari Temple is at a distance of 8.5 km from Bengaluru City Railway Station on Kanakapura Road. Bana in colloquial language means Vana or forest and Shankari means the consort of Shankara or Goddess Parvati. Needless to mention, Banashankari Amma Temple is dedicated to Goddess Parvati.

Most significant feature of the temple is that Sri Banashankari is offered Pujas during Rahukala, an inauspicious time for Hindus. The temple is open to public every day. Special puja is performed on Tuesday, Friday and Sundays.

Devotees light Diyas from lemons by cutting them in half and removing the inside pulp. They then fill it with sesame oil and light them. Tuesday, Friday and Sunday are considered as the most auspicious days and huge number of devotees offer prayers on these days.

ಶ್ರೀ ಬನಶಂಕರಿ ಅಮ್ಮನವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ನಗರ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಿಂದ 8.5 ಕಿ. ಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿ, ಕನಕಪುರ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಆಡು ಭಾಷೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬನ ಎಂದರೆ ಕಾಡು ಎಂದು ಹಾಗೂ ಶಂಕರಿ ಎಂದರೆ ಶಂಕರನ ಮಡದಿ ಅಥವ ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ಎಂದು ಅರ್ಥ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ. ಹಾಗೆಯೇ, ಬನಶಂಕರಿ ಅಮ್ಮನವರ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಆರಾಧ್ಯ ದೈವವೂ ಪಾರ್ವತಿ ದೇವಿಯೇ.

ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಪ್ರಮುಖ ವೈಶಿಷ್ಟ್ಯವೆಂದರೆ, ದೇವಿಯ ಪೂಜೆಯನ್ನು, ಹಿಂದೂ ಸಂಪ್ರದಾಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಮಂಗಳ ಎಂದು ಪರಿಗಣಿಸುವ ರಾಹುಕಾಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಮಂಗಳವಾರ, ಶುಕ್ರವಾರ ಹಾಗೂ ಭಾನುವಾರಗಳಂದು ವಿಶೇಷ ಪೂಜೆಗಳು ನಡೆಯುತ್ತವೆ.

ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೆ ಒಳಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ.
