About Temple

Sri Cheluvanarayanaswamy Temple is located in Melukote, Mandya district, Karnataka. It is about 50 km from Mysuru and 150 km from Bengaluru. The presiding deity is Sri Cheluvanarayana, a manifestation of Vishnu. The deity is also called Tirunarayana, which endows the place with the name Tirunarayanapuram. The temple is built at the foot of Yadugiri, a rocky hill overlooking the Cauvery valley. On the top of the hill is the temple of Sri Yoganarasimhaswamy. There are many more shrines and ponds in the town. Melukote is also home to the Academy of Sanskrit Research. It has a vast collection of ancient Sanskrit manuscripts. The temple is administered by Muzrai Department of Government of Karnataka.

ಶ್ರೀ ಚೆಲುವನಾರಾಯಣಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕದ ಮಂಡ್ಯಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಮೇಲುಕೋಟೆಯಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಮೈಸೂರಿನಿಂದ 50 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರಿನಿಂದ 150 ಕಿ. ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಶ್ರೀ ಚೆಲುವನಾರಾಯಣನನ್ನು ತಿರುನಾರಾಯಣ ಎಂದು ಕರೆಯುತ್ತಾರೆ. ಇದರಿಂದಾಗಿ ಮೇಲುಕೋಟೆಗೆ ತಿರುನಾರಯಣಪುರಂ ಎಂಬ ಹೆಸರು ಬಂದಿದೆ. ಕಾವೇರಿ ಕಣಿವೆಯ ಯದುಗಿರಿ ಬೆಟ್ಟದತಪ್ಪಲಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಚೆಲುವನಾರಾಯಣಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯ ಹಾಗೂ ಬೆಟ್ಟದ ಮೇಲೆ ಯೋಗಾನರಸಿಂಹಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿದೆ. ಇದಲ್ಲದೆ ಯದುಗಿರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಸಹ ಅನೇಕ ಗುಡಿಗಳನ್ನು ಹಾಗೂ ಕೊಳಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು. ಮೇಲುಕೋಟೆಯ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ಅಧ್ಯಯನ ಕೇಂದ್ರವು ಪ್ರಮುಖ ಆಕರ್ಷಣೆಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಈ ಕೇಂದ್ರದಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪುರಾತನ ಹಸ್ತಪ್ರತಿಗಳನ್ನು ಕಾಣಬಹುದು.
ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಸರ್ಕಾರದ ಮುಜರಾಯಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯ ಆಡಳಿತಕ್ಕೊಳಪಟ್ಟಿದೆ.
