Sri Doddabasavanna temple | Bull Temple
Sri Doddabasavanna temple or The Bull Temple in Basavanagudi is located on Bull Temple Road at about 4.7 km from Sri Kempegowda Bus Station and Sangolli Rayanna Railway Station, Bengaluru. The nearest Namma Metro Stop is the National College about 2km from Sri Doddabasavanna temple. The gigantic, monolithic and ancient Bull Temple is attached to Bugle Rock, a historical monument. A small hillock in which Bull Temple is located is called Basavanagudi, which is now the name of one of the most popular localities in Bengaluru. Basavana means ‘of the bull’ and Gudi means temple, hence the name Basavanagudi.
The monolithic Basava in this Temple is worshipped as Nandi, the vehicle or Vahana of Lord Shiva. Nandi is also considered as the most ardent devotee of Lord Shiva. Nandi in Sanskrit means “joyous”.
The temple administration is taken care by Muzrai department.
ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಸವನ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲೇ ಇರುವ ಬುಲ್ ಟೆಂಪಲ್ ರಸ್ತೆಯಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಶ್ರೀ ಕಂಪೇಗೌಡ ಬಸ್ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ ಹಾಗೂ ಸಂಗೊಳ್ಳಿರಾಯಣ್ಣ ರೈಲ್ವೆ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣಗಳಿಂದ ಸುಮಾರು 4.7 ಕಿ.ಮೀ. ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ನಮ್ಮ ಮೆಟ್ರೊ ನ್ಯಾಷನಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣವು ಸುಮಾರು ಎರಡು ಕಿಮೀ ದೂರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಬೃಹತ್ತಾದ, ಏಕಶಿಲಾ ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯನ್ನು ಹೊಂದಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಸವನ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಅತ್ಯಂತ ಪುರಾತನವಾದುದೆಂದು ಹೇಳಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ಐತಿಹಾಸಿಕ ಸ್ಮಾರಕವಾಗಿರುವ ಕಹಳೆ ಬಂಡೆ (ಬ್ಯೂಗಲ್ ರಾಕ್)ಗೆ ಹೊಂದಿಕೊಂಡಂತಿದೆ. ಒಂದು ಚಿಕ್ಕ ಗುಡ್ಡದ ಮೇಲಿರುವ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಸವಣ್ಣನ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಕಾರಣದಿಂದಲೇ ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿರುವ ಅತಿ ದೊಡ್ಡ ಬಡಾವಣೆಯನ್ನು ಬಸವನಗುಡಿ ಎಂದು ಹೆಸರಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ.
ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯವಿರುವ ಬೃಹತ್ ಏಕಶಿಲಾ ಬಸವನ ಮೂರುತಿಯನ್ನು ಪರಶಿವನ ವಾಹನವಾಗಿರುವ ನಂದಿಯೆಂದು ಅರ್ಚಿಸಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ. ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ನಂದಿಯೆಂದರೆ ಸಂತೋಷ ಎಂದರ್ಥ.
ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದ ಆಡಳಿತವನ್ನು ‘ಧಾರ್ಮಿಕ ದತ್ತಿ ಇಲಾಖೆಯು’ ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದೆ.

ಹತ್ತಿರದ ನಮ್ಮ ಮೆಟ್ರೋ ರೈಲು ನಿಲ್ದಾಣ:
ಬಸವನಗುಡಿಯ ದೊಡ್ಡಬಸವಣ್ಣ ದೇವಾಲಯವು ನಾಷನಲ್ ಕಾಲೇಜು ಮೆಟ್ರೋ ನಿಲ್ದಾಣದಿಂದ ಕೇವಲ ಎರಡು ಕಿ ಮೀ (2 km) ಅಂತರದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
Ksheerabhisheka Seva / ಕ್ಷೀರಾಭಿಷೇಕ ಸೇವೆ:
Sankalpa will be performed and Devotees/s can watch the Ksheerabhisheka. Milk will be given to Devotees as Prasada.
ಸೇವಾಕರ್ತರ ಹೆಸರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ಮಾಡಲಾಗುವುದು. ನಂತರ ಕ್ಷೀರಾಭಿಷೇಕಕ್ಕೆ ಬಳಸಿದ ಹಾಲನ್ನು ಪ್ರಸಾದವಾಗಿ ಸೇವಾಕರ್ತರಿಗೆ ನೀಡಲಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
