About Temple
Sri Virupaksha Swamy temple and its premises are the main portion of Hampi village. This temple is also called as Pampapati temple and is dedicated to a form of lord Shiva viz. Virupaksha and a local goddess named Pampa. The temple was built and expanded over the years from 13th to 17th centuries. The temple contains two corridors and Gopuras. The road in front of the temple stretches half a mile to the east. There is also a statue of Nandi here.

ಶ್ರೀ ವಿರೂಪಾಕ್ಷ ಸ್ವಾಮಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಮತ್ತು ಅದರ ಆವರಣ ಹ೦ಪೆ ಗ್ರಾಮದ ಮುಖ್ಯ ಭಾಗ. ಇದು , ಶಿವನ ಒಂದು ರೂಪವಾದ ವಿರೂಪಾಕ್ಷ ಮತ್ತು ಪ೦ಪಾ ಎ೦ಬ ಸ್ಥಳೀಯ ದೇವತೆಯ ದೇವಾಲಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಪ೦ಪಾಪತಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಎ೦ದೂ ಹೆಸರು. ೧೩ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದಿ೦ದ ೧೭ನೇ ಶತಮಾನದ ನಡುವೆ ಇದನ್ನು ಕಟ್ಟಿ ಬೆಳೆಸಲಾಯಿತು. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಎರಡು ಆವರಣಗಳು ಮತ್ತು ಗೋಪುರಗಳು ಇವೆ. ಇದರ ಎದುರು ಇರುವ ರಸ್ತೆ ಪೂರ್ವಕ್ಕೆ ಅರ್ಧ ಮೈಲು ಸಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.ಇಲ್ಲಿ ನ೦ದಿಯ ಒಂದು ಪ್ರತಿಮೆಯೂ ಇದೆ. ಈ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ ಇ೦ದೂ ಸಹ ಉಪಯೋಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ.
