Mahatobara Sri Anantheshwara Devastana – Udupi

Mahatobara Sri Ananteshwara Devastana- Udupi is located in the Car Street of Sri Udupi Krishna Mutt in Udupi.

Lord Sri Anantheshwara Swamy, also called as called Ananthasana or Anantha Padmanabha is the presiding deity of the temple. Great Hindu philosopher and the chief proponent of the Dvaita Philosopy “Sri Guru Madhwacharya” is believed to be vanished from this temple. As a mark of it, a small temple for “Sri Madhwacharya” had also been built in this shrine.

Mahatobara Sri Ananteshwara Devastana- Udupi temple premises also houses smaller temples of Sri Prasanna Someshwara, Nagadevata, Ganapathi, and Dharmashaastharana.. It is believed to be followed as a customary practice to visit this ancient temple first, before entering the famous Sri Krishna Temple.

Presently, “Sri Sugunendra Tirtha”, the present pontiff of Sri Puthige Matha, is the Chief Dharamadharshi, looking after the Administration of the Temple.

ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಾಲಯವು, ಉಡುಪಿ ನಗರದ ಹೃದಯ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿರುವ, ಆಯತಾಕಾರದ ರಥ ಬೀದಿಯ ಮಧ್ಯ ಭಾಗದಲ್ಲಿದೆ. ಲಿಂಗ ರೂಪದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಶ್ರೀ ಅನಂತೇಶ್ವರ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯು ಈ ದೇವಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿರುವ ಪ್ರಧಾನ ದೇವರು. ಈ ಸ್ವಾಮಿಯನ್ನು ಅನಂತಾಸನ, ಅನಂತ ಪದ್ಮನಾಭ ಎಂದೂ ಕರೆಯುವ ವಾಡಿಕೆ ಇದೆ. ಈ ಅನಂತೇಶ್ವರನ ಸನ್ನಿಧಿಯಲ್ಲೇ ಶ್ರೀ ಆಚಾರ್ಯ ಮಧ್ವರು ಸಶರೀರವಾಗಿ ಉತ್ತರ ಬದರಿಗೆ ತೆರಳಿದರು. ಈ ಘಟನೆಯ ದ್ಯೋತಕವಾಗಿ ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅದೃಶ್ಯವಾದ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಒಂದು ಪುಟ್ಟ ಮಧ್ವರ ಗುಡಿಯೂ ಇದೆ. ಇಷ್ಟಲ್ಲದೆ, ಈ ದೇಗುಲದಲ್ಲಿ ಶ್ರೀ ಪ್ರಸನ್ನ ಸೋಮೇಶ್ವರನ, ನಾಗದೇವತೆಗಳ, ಗಣಪತಿಯ, ಮತ್ತು ಧರ್ಮಶಾಸ್ತಾರರ ಗುಡಿಗಳಿವೆ. ಉಡುಪಿಗೆ ಬರುವ ಭಕ್ತಾದಿಗಳು ಮೊದಲು ಅನಂತೇಶ್ವರನ ದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡಿ ನಂತರ ಶ್ರೀ ಕೃಷ್ಣನ ದರ್ಶನ ಮಾಡುವುದು ಇಲ್ಲಿ ವಿಶೇಷ ಪದ್ಧತಿಯಾಗಿದೆ. ಪ್ರಸ್ತುತ ಪುತ್ತಿಗೆ ಮಠದ ಶ್ರೀ ಸುಗುಣೇಂದ್ರತೀರ್ಥ ಶ್ರೀಪಾದಂಗಳವರು ಪ್ರಧಾನ ಧರ್ಮದರ್ಶಿಗಳಾಗಿ ದೇವಾಲಯದ ಆಡಳಿತವನ್ನು ನೋಡಿಕೊಳ್ಳುತ್ತಿದ್ದಾರೆ.
