ಉಪ್ಪುಂದ ಶ್ರೀ ದುರ್ಗಾಪರಮೇಶ್ವರಿ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನವು ಕರ್ನಾಟಕ ಕರಾವಳಿ ತೀರದ ಉಡುಪಿ ಜಿಲ್ಲೆಯ ಕುಂದಾಪುರ ತಾಲ್ಲೂಕಿನ ಉಪ್ಪುಂದದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸುಮನಾ ನದಿಯ ಎಡದಂಡೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಪೂರ್ವಾಭಿಮುಖವಾಗಿ ಇರುವ ದೇವಾಲಯವಾಗಿದೆ. ಇಲ್ಲಿ ಅಗಸ್ತ್ಯತೀರ್ಥ (ಬಡಗುಕೆರೆ), ಮಾತಂಗತೀರ್ಥ (ತೆಂಕು ಮಠೀಯ ಕೆರೆ) ಸುಮನಾ ನದಿ, ದೇವಿಕೆರೆ ಮತ್ತು ಸಮುದ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥವಲ್ಲದೆ ದೇವಳದ ಬಾವಿತೀರ್ಥ ಸೇರಿದಂತೆ ಐದು ಪವಿತ್ರ ತೀರ್ಥಗಳಿವೆ. ಕೆಲವು ಶಾಸನಗಳಲ್ಲಿ ಉಪ್ಪುಂದ ದುರ್ಗೆಯನ್ನು “ಶಾಂತಿಕಾ ದುರ್ಗಾಪರಮೇಶ್ವರಿ” ಎಂತಲೂ ಉಲ್ಲೇಖಿಸಲಾಗಿದೆ. ಒಟ್ಟು ಈ ಪ್ರದೇಶವನ್ನು “ತಿಗರ್ತ ರಾಜ್ಯ” ವೆಂತಲೂ, “ತ್ರಿಗರ್ತ ದ್ರಾವಿಡ ರಾಜ್ಯ” ವೆಂತಲೂ ಕರೆದಿರುತ್ತಾರೆ.

Uppunda Shree Durgaparameshwari Temple is one of the most ancient temple situated along the coastal belt of Karnataka at Uppunda in Kundapura Taluk of Udupi District. This temple is situated on the left bank of Sumana river. Here there are five holy Teertha’s namely – Agasthya Teertha (Badagu Kere), Matanga Teertha (Tenku Matiya Kere), Sumana River, Devi Kere, Sea and Bhavi Teertha at the temple. In some inscriptions, the deity is also refered to as “Shantika Durgaparameshwari”. This place was also called as Trigartha Rajya or Trigartha Dravida Rajya.
